Unintentional, residual minute amount of 1,4-dioxanefound in cosmetics is safe to use
The safety of products has always been the top priority of cosmetic industry. The goal of cosmetic industry is to consistently provide products that are safe and effective for their intended uses.
1,4 Dioxane is not a cosmetic ingredient. 1,4 dioxane is not intentionally added to any product but can be present in trace quantities in some raw materials. The cosmetic industry has been taken the available technology to minimize its presence in cosmetic. There may be trace amount limited by the available technology.
For unintentional presence of trace amount of 1,4 dioxane carried over from raw material is allowed under European Cosmetics Directive 76/768/EEC. Similar allowance is found in the cosmetic regulation of many other countries/territories.
Department of Health and Ageing of Australian Government has the opinion that the presence of trace 1,4 dioxane not more than 100 ppm in consumer products is safe.

US Food and Drug Administration have the opinion that such minute presence poses no hazard to consumers.
" The 1,4-dioxane levels we have seen in our monitoring of cosmetics do not present a hazard to consumers."
